A website I think of for photography and home furnishings has jumped into the recently made known and used car business. Overstock.com, an online “closeout” retailer offering discount, brand-name merchandise for sale over the Internet, is selling cars. It shows you how desperate companies are to get a piece of the used car market. Annually, more than 40 million used cars are sold, which is why its such an appealing place to be.
The system is powered by Zag, which coincidentally released a report the day before the site went live saying The auto market is approaching a indicative crossroads where dealers may soon have to accept upfront pricing. And, now its part of an upfront pricing station.
The Overstock.com used car page is a little clunky. The first window only lets you put in the make youre looking for and nothing otherwise. You be possible to winnow down your choices when you get to the second window. Its an unnecessary step that good sites eliminate. As best as I could tell in my search on Buick Enclaves, its not possible to further narrow your choices by year. Only one of 17 models listed had mileage info.
Time will tell how Overstock.com fares in the car business. To succeed its going to have to overcome its bulky system.

Professional automotive dealerships, the types with hundreds of new and used cars on their lots, have plenty of skeptics when it comes to honesty. Now, imagine how hard it must be to operate as a small independent car dealer
The truth is there are just as many honest small car dealers as there are honest big-brand dealershipsthe trustworthiness has more to do with individual management than the size of the business operation.
The article Small Car Dealers Take a Gamble on Your Used Vehicles sparked this blog. It is an interesting read, as it offers insight into the world of small car dealer business. As expected, small dealers take big gambles with used car inventories, and are less able to absorb losses. At the same time, there are excellent deals to be found at small dealers who are not burdened with the same overhead found at large retailers.
Regardless of where you buy your vehicle, I cannot stress enough the importance of a Pre-Purchase Inspection. As the article says, have an independent mechanic inspect the vehicle before you buy it.
Excellent advice.

Is your used car ugly? Really ugly?
Hagerty Insurance, a popular insurance provider for the collector-car crowd, recently asked policyholders to vote for the worst car designs of all time. When you ask car enthusiasts a question about cars, you get answerslots of them. In this case, nearly 2,500 outspoken respondents made their case for their ugliest vehicle picks.
Of course, such classically popular ugly cars as the AMC Pacer, Ford Pinto, and AMC Gremlin made the list. What was interesting to me were two late-model vehicles, the Yugo and the Pontiac Aztek, on the list as readers choices. (My apologies in advance if there are any Aztek owners out there feeling the glaring eyes.)
Well, ugly car owners, you may get the last laugh. It seems that the value of those notoriously loathsome vehicles is increasing (yes, going up). Therefore, the next time someone laughs at your ride, remind him or her that while their car continues to depreciate, your repugnant ride is making you money!
Enjoy!
