Hybrid Sales are Hot

Yep, it looks like the hybrid sales graph is headed in only one direction–up! With more models comin’ online regularly, there are more choices than ever to extend that fuel mileage via current hybrid technology. Slated for this fall’s release: GM’s much bally-hooed 2-mode hybrids, the Tahoe and Yukon–and stay tuned for the Chevy Malibu Hybrid (nice one!) to be released in November. And the 2008 hybrid model year selections sure look like a prediction for another promising year for hybrid growth. A quick glance at sales numbers for each of the 2007 hybrids, according to current numbers from the Electric Drive Transportation Association:

  • Ford Escape: 11,444 (through June 2007)
  • Honda Accord: 2,808
  • Honda Civic: 23,828
  • Honda Insight: 3
  • Lexus RX400h: 12,193
  • Lexus LS 600h: 196 (September Sales Only)
  • Nissan Altima: 5,318
  • Mercury Mariner: 868 (May and June 2007 sales only)
  • Saturn VUE: 3,969 (through May 2007 only)
  • Toyota Camry: 40,879
  • Toyota Highlander: 13,707 (through July 2007)
  • Toyota Prius: 137,114
